Many manufacturing and industrial processes involve the need for assessing longer work-pieces. While they may be more cumbersome than smaller parts, they nevertheless require the same level of Quality Control as any other part or product in the process.
Problem
A longer work-piece causes problems for a camera with integrated lighting, due, mainly, to the shape. The lighting is round, naturally, which means it can only illuminate circular areas.
While it is possible to adjust the optical characteristics of the camera to bring larger portions of a long part into focus, it is not possible to change the physical shape of the built-in lighting.
This means that some of the work-piece will remain only part-lit during the inspection process.
Solution
Bar lights: Arranging a parallel or square of Bar Lights (with possible use of angle brackets) will allow a longer section of the part (possibly the whole length) to be correctly lit during the inspection process, improving the quality control situation and speeding up the process.
